Egypt’s Municipal Waste: A Growing Challenge
Egypt’s rapid population growth, urbanization and changing consumption patterns have contributed to a significant increase in the amount of municipal waste generated across the country.
Data presented by OWL Research, based on figures from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), shows that Egypt’s municipal waste generation has increased substantially over the past two decades.
The volume rose from approximately 15 million tons in 2001 to 26 million tons in 2025.
