Road safety remains a major challenge in Egypt, with both road accident injuries and fatalities increasing in 2025.
According to data from Merasad Omran, Egypt recorded approximately 85,000 people injured in road accidents in 2025, compared with around 76,000 in 2024. This represents an annual increase of approximately 11%.
Road accident fatalities also increased during the same period, reaching approximately 5,800 deaths in 2025, compared with 5,300 deaths in 2024, also representing an increase of around 11%.
Road Accident Injuries Reach Their Highest Level Since 2020
The number of people injured in road accidents has fluctuated significantly over the past six years.
Recorded injuries stood at approximately:
- 57,000 in 2020
- 51,000 in 2021
- 56,000 in 2022
- 71,000 in 2023
- 76,000 in 2024
- 85,000 in 2025
The 2025 figure represents the highest level recorded in the period shown.
Compared with 2020, the number of road accident injuries increased by approximately 49%, highlighting the scale of the long-term increase.
Road Accident Deaths Also Remain High
Fatalities followed a different pattern, but the latest data also points to an increase.
Road accident deaths reached approximately 6,100 in 2020, before rising to 7,300 in 2021 and 7,700 in 2022.
The number subsequently declined to around 5,900 deaths in 2023 and 5,300 in 2024, before increasing again to approximately 5,800 in 2025.
Although fatalities remain below their 2021–2022 peak, the increase recorded in 2025 represents a reversal of the decline seen over the previous two years.
What the Numbers Tell Us
The data points to two important developments in Egypt’s road safety landscape.
First, the number of people injured in road accidents has been on a clear upward trajectory since 2021, reaching its highest level in 2025.
Second, the decline in fatalities observed between 2022 and 2024 was interrupted in 2025.
This combination suggests that road safety remains an important issue, not only because of the number of lives lost, but also because of the growing number of people affected by serious road accidents.

The latest figures provide a clear signal: while road fatalities remain below their recent peak, the overall number of people injured on Egypt’s roads continues to rise.
