The True Cost of Rebuilding Gaza

Rebuilding Gaza after years of destruction is not a short-term project — it is a decade-long effort that requires massive resources and international commitment. According to the estimates shown in the report, Gaza will need around $53 billion over ten years to restore essential services and infrastructure across the Strip.

Housing represents the largest share of the cost at $15.2 billion, reflecting the enormous number of homes completely or partially destroyed (page 2). Other critical sectors such as health ($7.1B), commerce and industry ($6.9B), and agriculture & food ($4.2B) will also require substantial investment. Key public-services — including education, transport, water & sanitation, environment and social protection — make up the rest of the reconstruction bill.

Reconstruction is more than rebuilding structures; it’s rebuilding life, stability, and opportunity. The scale of damage means Gaza’s recovery depends on long-term planning, sustained funding, and the ability to restore basic human needs before economic growth can return.

How do you think the region can accelerate Gaza’s reconstruction in today’s political and economic climate?
