Watermelon is one of Egypt’s key summer crops, both locally and internationally.
Thanks to its high water content, refreshing taste, and strong consumer demand during hot months, watermelon production has expanded across several regions including Upper Egypt, Sinai, and various desert oases.

Egypt produces hundreds of thousands of tons annually, supported by the country’s sandy soil and suitable climate. In recent years, export volumes have also grown—especially to European and Gulf markets during May and June—positioning watermelon as an increasingly important export crop.
Watermelon is becoming not just a seasonal favorite for Egyptian households, but also a contributor to agricultural income and the broader national economy.
